Our Information Systems Security Program Facts:

  • It follows the CISSP, which is a highly respected industry certification among security professionals.

  •  It was created with input from security professionals in the Sacramento region.  They are all members of the Sacramento chapter of ISSA.  The Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) is an international Organization providing educational forums, publications and peer interaction opportunities that enhance the knowledge, skills and professional growth of its members - information security professionals.

  • The principal instructor for this program holds a MS degree in Digital Security.  He is also active in ISSA.

  • Our program was the first Security Program at a Community College in California.

  • We are working on a transfer program with Sacramento State University

    • Here is a link to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between our college and CSUS.

    • Here is more information about their new Information Assurance and Security (IA) Program.  It maps to the National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security committee's 4011 standards.

    • If you have any questions you can contact either Professor Parks at parksl@crc.losrios.edu or Professor Salem at salema@ecs.csus.edu.

To view more information about our CISS certificate and degree follow the links to the college's current catalogue.  To view additional information about our security courses you can also follow the link to the college's current catalogue.  With one exception, all of our courses have a lecture and a lab component.  Since, the majority of our students work we offer all of these courses either at night or as a hybrid course (lecture online/lab on ground).

If you are not sure this field is right for you or if you only want to gain enough knowledge to secure your home computer I suggest you take our CISS 300 course, which is called, "Introduction to Information Systems Security."  It is offered every semester either online or on ground.  Since, it is only a one-unit course your commitment to the course is small, but in return you will gain a lot of useful information that you can use to secure your home or work computer(s).
If you want to learn enough to be able to put your new security skill-sets on your resume I suggest you take our CISS 310 course, which is called, "Security Fundamentals."  This three-unit course follows another highly sought-after certificate called, "Security+."  This course is offered every semester as well either on ground or as a hybrid.
