The accumulation of sediment in a marine environment so as to make water depth shallower.

Dredging, pumping, building breakwaters, sand traps

3.   From a marine ecological perspective, what is unique about the Pt. Magu area?

It is a salt marsh wetlands area available to migratory water fowl and plants.

4.  What environmental threats does it face?

Agricultural and urban runoff.

5.  What was done at the Lag 4 restoration site?

Chemical contaiminants (PCB's) had accumulated in the soils.  Contaminated soils were removed and revegetated.

6.  What was proof that restoration was working?

Return of migratory fowl and certain fish.

7.  What was the environmental threat posed by the holding ponds described in the program?

Contaminated runoff sludge that accumulated in the ponds contained heavy metals (e.g., zinc, cadmium)

erosion of unstable cliffs, questionable discharge of effluent

Learning to live with the threats of landsliding through public outreach, use of de-watering facilities (to minimize landslide), grading slopes, buttressing the lower parts of slopes, and avoid building in such areas.
